Question:
I am 6 months pregnant and my husband and I are thinking of going to Tunisia for 10 day holiday. Do you think it is safe in my condition (flying and then sudden weather change)?? Thank you!
KM
Answer:
Flying and having a holiday even if in a different climate are not necessarily things to avoid even when 6 months' pregnant. However there are a number of issues that you may wish to think about: - if anything goes wrong, would you be comfortable with the standard of hospital treatment at your destination especially as insurance will not cover it, nor would it cover the cost of your emergency return to Moscow. - will the climate change be unduly tiring (from autumn cold to serious heat; hot climates are alwasys uncomfortable for heavily pregnant women. - if you are not going on holiday soon, remember that you cannot fly after 36 weeks. - the infrastructure at your destination means you will have to be extremely careful with what you eat and drink. - you need to be careful while travelling to drink a lot to stay well hydrated, while also taking precuations against deep venous thrombosis (clots in the legs).
