Question:
I know drinking a 8+ glasses of water per day is good for you. Is there any difference if that is plain carbonated (Saint Springs, Bon Aqua etc,) or still?
GK
Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry; it's a useful question as we too have heard this medical myth repeated many times... but there appears to be no physiological basis for it (see www.komotv.com/news/printstory.asp?id=18541 and for the longer version www.dartmouth.edu/dms/news/2002_h2/08aug2002_water.shtml). Certainly carbonated water offers no advantages, and is positively disadvantageous when flying; also, some mineral waters are more mineralized than is comfortable for your kidneys if your intake is very high. We suggest drinking when exercising, thirsty or when your urine is darker than 'usual' and regarding the taking of regular moderate exercise as being what is truly good for you. Best of luck!
