Thank you for your inquiry We regret the 'Ask the Doctor' service is for Russian residents only. However, any dog bite in a country where rabies is a possibility must be taken seriously. The 'depth' of a bite is not a good guide to whether the bite is likely to be transmit rabies (in any case rabies virus is transmitted by saliva and even relatively superficial scratches can still transmit rabies if the dog is rabid). On the evidence available we would still advise a full course of rabies post-exposure vaccination. These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician.
