Question:
I just found out that I am pregant. My question is for the last several month I have been taking alot of pain killers(Vicoden). How is this going to hurt my baby?
yms
Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. Vicoden contains Hydrocodone and paracetamol (acetaminophen), both are painkillers and are considered safe in pregnancy. Because Hydrocodone is a mild narcotic type of pain killer it may cause withdrawal symptoms in your baby if you were to continue it throughout pregnancy. You will need to discuss with your doctor the need to take regular pain relievers and the measures you should take to ensure your pregnancy proceeds normally and your baby stays healthy.
