Question:
I have recently been diagnosed with Ureaplasma urealyticum. Do you think I got it through sex or could I have been born with it? Can it be transmitted through oral sex? For the record: I am a woman.
IR
Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. It is really very unlikely that even if this was contracted as a baby it is still present from birth until adulthood when it shows as urethritis. Although the circumstances of the diagnosis are not mentioned, this is from the medical point of view a sexually transmitted disease and can be transmitted through oral sex. Treatment is relatively straightforward - antibiotic for 2 weeks - but over 50% of strains are resistant to Cipro so an alternative should be used. Hope this helps.
