Question:
I recently was in Thailand and had intercourse with a prostitute who was infected with leprosy. Can leprosy be transmitted through sex? What should I do at this point? I had sex with her 2 weeks ago. Thanks.
KME
Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry Leprosy is spread from person to person by infected nasal sectretions. The average incubation period is 5-7 years. There is no way to effectively prevent infection with leprosy but it is not 'easily' caught. Under the circumstances mentioned, testing for Hep B & C, HIV and syphilis would be more recommended.
