Got an ache or pain? Have a question about a prescription or over-the-counter drug? Looking for some FREE medical advice?
Question:
I am allergic to sulpha drugs. Is it safe for me to take vitamins containing ferrous sulphate, copper sulphate, zinc sulphate and marganese sulphate (in one pill) or is it better for me to stay away from anything that has the word "sulpha" in it? Thanks in advance, AP.
AP
Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry "Sulpha" drug allergy generally refers to an allergy to sulphonamide drugs, not the sulphate forms of chemical compounds. If you can check with whoever told you that you were allergic to sulpha drugs that would be ideal, but a cross-allergy appears exceedingly unlikely. Hope this helps.
