Dolor y Gloria
16:40. Drama. Spain 2019, 113 min. Directed by Pedro Almodóvar. Starring: Antonio Banderas, Penélope Cruz, Leonardo Sbaraglia. In Spanish with Russian subtitles. Pain and Glory tells of a series of reencounters experienced by Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered: his childhood in the 60s, when he emigrated with his parents to a village in Valencia in search of prosperity, the first desire, his first adult love in the Madrid of the 80s, the pain of the breakup of that love while it was still alive and intense, writing as the only therapy to forget the unforgettable, the early discovery of cinema, and the void, the infinite void that creates the incapacity to keep on making films. Pain and Glory talks about creation, about the difficulty of separating it from one's own life and about the passions that give it meaning and hope. In recovering his past, Salvador finds the urgent need to recount it, and in that need he also finds his salvation.

The Deer Hunter
11:20. Drama. USA 1978, 183 min. Directed by Michael Cimino. Starring: Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, John Cazale, Meryl Streep, John Savage. In English with Russian subtitles. Pennsylvania steelworkers Mike, Nick and Steven are regular guys who love drinking, laughing, and hunting in the mountains. Having received their draft notices, they set off for Vietnam without a second thought. What happens to them in the jungle doesn’t just destroy their bodies and souls, but breaks the connection that they carried through their entire lives up until that point. Michael Cimino’s celebrated anti-war drama returns to the big screen, after receiving five Oscars and a Golden Globe for best director. Unlike epics like “Apocalypse Now” or “Full Metal Jacket,” “The Deer Hunter” represents a deeply personal look at the Vietnam War, concentrating on the personal stories of three friends.
