US cinema is not just a separate country on the art map of the planet; a whole continent where there is a place for a number of states. Hollywood with its colossal budgets and universal language stands close to independent experiments, author cinema.

Moreover, the borders between all cinematic states are open - and the stars can play in a small film out of interest, not for profit, and directors who start with small works, now receive offers from major studios.

The festival opens with the Russian premiere of the Jockey. Clint Bentley’s thrilling film tells the story of Jackson (Clifton Collins Jr), a jockey propelled by the burning competitiveness whose heart beats in-sync with the rhythm of thundering hooves.

Swan Song tells a story of a retired hairdresser Pat Pitsenbarger, who escapes the confines of his small-town Sandusky, Ohio nursing home after learning of his former client's dying wish for him to style her final hairdo. Soon, Pat embarks on an odyssey to confront the ghosts of his past – and collect the beauty supplies necessary for the job. Swan Song is a comical and bittersweet journey about rediscovering one’s sparkle, and looking gorgeous while doing so.

The Letter Room is a nice little short about a corrections officer who gets transferred to the prison's prisoner communications department, and how he slowly finds himself involved in the prisoners' private conversations.

When Adam's (Mark Duplass) husband surprises him with weekly Spanish lessons, he's unsure about where or how this new element will fit into his already structured life.
