The mutual attraction of two aesthetic systems - music and architecture - has resulted in a creative impulse, a signal that inspired a team of enthusiasts to organize a large-scale international festival. The very concept of the Signal project was first successfully introduced last summer, and this perfect combination of music and architecture in the format of a large-scale cultural event has attracted more than 5,000 guests. The festival organizers put the most important pieces of puzzles together, which generated great interest, respect and anticipation both from the music industry and the audience. Here are these components of success! First, a perfect location! The festival takes place in a village named Nikola-Lenivets - well-known for its vast picturesque landscapes and art installations, which, in this case, serve as a cosmic set dressing for electronic artists’ performances. Next comes the backstage. A big crew of promoters from Moscow has been working hard on the festival creation and development. Among people pitched there are: the ideological inspirer of the festival - Sergey Fadeev, the creative director - Andrew Donin, the booking gurus - Jenya Sobol and Melik Simonian and many more… And, of course, the musical part of the code - a four-day line-up of the festival will hit all the four independent stages: the high-tech Main stage, the concert one called Meadow and two dance floors - Mobius and Prizma, which will host a series of show cases of international and local labeled partners of the festival, including London based band Digital Tsunami, Moscow community the Volks, GOST Sound, Nervmusic and the famous «away team» from St. Petersburg - Roots United.

Representing the international music program, the festival team makes every effort to present the potential of the Nikola-Lenivets natural area to the broad audience. Nikola-Lenivets is a part of the Ugra National Park, listed in the Earth's biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The four-day Signal 2018 festival will be held from 16 to 19 August in Nikola-Lenivets, on a unique natural and historical territory, 200 km from Moscow.

Festival headliners:

Tommy Four Seven. Tommy Four Seven is a British-born electronic music producer and DJ who developed an interest in music production at the tender age of just 12. After leaving college, Tommy went on to take a degree in music technology and, while honing his DJ skills, earned himself a weekly residency at the Fire Club in London. His first release, "Eat Me," came in 2006 after he sent a demo to David Duriez's label Brique Rouge, and with subsequent releases on the label and its darker offshoot, Kill Brique, Tommy started to develop his own unique take on tech-house. In 2008, he set up his own label, Shooting Elvis, which released a handful of 12"s and saw him working with James Kronier. 2009 saw a mysterious white label 12" released with just Bauhaus stamped on the label, the two tracks caught the techno scene's attention with its harsh industrial sounds and solid, driving beats. Eventually, the mysterious act were uncloaked as techno pioneer Chris Liebing and Tommy Four Seven, and this pairing saw the start of a new chapter in Tommy's sound. "Sor," the first Tommy Four Seven release on Chris Liebing's CLR Records, took Tommy's new production technique of using sound design to create techno to another level, and in 2010, he set about recording his debut album. Bolstered with Liebing's studio skills, the album saw Tommy eschewing the usual route of synthesizers and digital production, instead using field recordings, sound sculpture, and manipulated vocals to create a dark, deep, and industrial-inspired brand of techno. 2011 saw the first results of this work, with the release of the double A-side 12" "Armed 3/Ratu," which was followed a few months later by the album Primate.

Myn. With an incisive ear and serenading supreme stacks within his wax arsenal, Myn, founder of Public System Recordings, enlivens a natural understanding of principal floor functions. He is able to carry out circumferential experimentations while still driving through to the membrane of what a dancer's ear desires. Industrial beat-tech with an overhanging neutral earthy value, with EBM, minimal wave, electro and acid nuances. The curation of his prolific label exhibits his taste in aural oddity and his proclivity for betting on winners early. With the first V/A compilation brought about "Cold Vision Era" under his Myn alias that began building toward what he now infects upon each release. He hosts a monthly show on Rinse France where he invites grail after grail within the deviant scene with guests as Nick Klein, Eindkrak, Twins, Phuong-Dan, Philip Berg, Job Sifre, Wosto, Trenton Chase, Identified Patient, Black Seed... In 2018, he makes a strong indication of a rising future with his first full length EP " The Violent Poetry " on the gilded classic factory Pinkman label.

Robert Lippok. Avant-garde German visual artist and composer Robert Lippok has been an influential player in Berlin’s thriving experimental music scene from a very early age. In 1983, he co-founded dissident punk band Ornament und Verbrechen with his brother Ronald, inspired by industrial trailblazers Throbbing Gristle. An open platform to explore jazz, electronic, and industrial concepts with like-minded collaborators of the East German underground persuasion, the group remained active until the mid-1990s, at which point it was overtaken by the brothers’ next and most well-known collaboration, the palindromic To Rococo Rot. A significant post-rock/electronic outfit started by the Lippok brethren and Düsseldorf bass guitarist Stefan Schneider, the Krautrockish band ushered in a new generation of electronic acts committed to acoustic investigations and improvisation of all stripes. Known for his expansive imagination, inventive rhythmic reflexes, and layers of fuzzy tones, Lippok’s solo work is just as wide-ranging – from funky, glitch-y, twisted techno record Redsuperstructure for Raster-Noton (2011), to stage design for operas, gallery exhibitions, and notable collaborations with Italian harpist Beatrice Martini, Canadian percussionist Debashis Sinha or brother Ronald and Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi (the latter trio as Whitetree). Lippok will debut his new solo audio-visual work daytimeastronomy, based on his Redsuperstructure release, at EM15.

Anthony Linell/Abdulla Rashim. The cohesive array of depth charged devices that Anthony Linell has produced is formidable. From his opening statements as Abdulla Rashim on his early label of the same name, right through to his recent work that puts his aliases aside, there is a robust and rigorous intent that compounds the elemental strategies of techno's models to apprehend his singular vision. Presiding over Stockholm's Northern Electronics label with Varg (Jonas Rönnberg), Linell dispenses with mechanisms of attention on all fronts. Marked by an indefatigable self-reliance, the label presents exactly what it means to display, and no more. Carving an idiosyncratic platform for his music is as great of a warning as there could be that Linell's leveraging little toward the benefit of the audience. By his measure, the familiarity and comfort of contemporary techno is stripped back to its rushing heart, the senses left tailgating the strobe in a fit of intuition over decision. The greater this is exposed the colder it gets, and its in these extremes that Linell's caustic rhythmic precision hits. Live, it comes off as a galvanizing strike from the outside; analysing the room as a DJ, it's a case of being pursued through the dark. Just as the brevity of Linell's output in the eyes of techno is exalted as it is brought into focus, the background to this blurs as you start to decipher his other projects. Lundin Oil skirts the fringes of noise and experimental music, and in collaboration with Varg as Ulwhedar, this is perhaps even more pronounced. Purposively ricocheting between the techno world and experimental electronic music, Linell forges a distinct passage that gathers the aesthetically uncompromising motifs and missions from across this spectrum. It's this combination and resolve that's brought Linell to the world's attention, however little that attention has been solicited. Tickets
