19:00 Otello
Opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi. 170 min (with one intermission). Libretto: Arrigo Boito. Music Director and Conductor: Felix Korobov. Stage Director: Andrei Konchalovsky. Sung in Italian. Based on William Shakespeare’s play "Othello," the opera was Verdi’s next-to-last and brought the composer to the peak of his dramatic power. Shakespeare’s strong characters, as well as the mixing of comic and dramatic situations, translate very well to the operatic stage.

Gianandrea Noseda conducts Cilea’s tragedy, in a new staging by Sir David McVicar, with the action partially set in a working replica of a Baroque theater. The cast also features mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili as the Princess of Bouillon, Adriana’s rival for Maurizio’s affections, and baritone Ambrogio Maestri as Michonnet.
