Opera production. 170 min. (with interval). Sung in French. Music: Jacques Offenbach. Libretto: Jules Barbier. Music Director and Conductor: Evgeny Brazhnik. Stage Director: Alexander Titel. This is the only opera by the operetta master Jacques Offenbach, and also his last work. The music of "Les Contes d’Hoffmann" has sounded at the Theatre more than once. In 1946, conductor E. Akulov and stage director P. Markov produced what they called "The Poet’s Love" after the Offenbach’s opera. In 1959 Komische Oper Berlin Theatre presented their version of "The Tales of Hoffmann" at the stage as part of a performing tour, while in 1987 it was the Komische Oper Ballet that presented its choreographic transcription. The same year again, the Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) Opera Theatre presented "Les Contes d’Hoffmann" on the Music Theatre’s stage, which was a fabulous success. Those responsible for the creation of the "Sverdlovsk phenomenon", as the Theatre was then referred to, were conductor Evgeny Brazhnik, stage director Alexander Titel, and set designer Valery Levental.
