Subtitles are available in English, French, German and Russian. The Workshop had spent more than seven years preparing the stage production based on Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece. As a result, only the novel’s opening chapters ended up on stage. Natasha Rostova in love with Boris Drubetskoy is still a foolish child. The little Princess Lize is yet to perish giving birth, and Prince Andrei is only getting ready for the army. The war is just a subject of small talk and boys’ games, but the heart already aches from the awareness of peaceful life’s fragility and unreliability. The stage production has been performed in Ukraine, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, and the US. War and Peace. The Beginning of the Novel is the winner of the Golden Mask Prize in the “Drama/Small Scale Production” category, 2002. Pyotr Fomenko was awarded the Golden Mask Prize in the “Drama/Best Director” category, 2002. Actress Galina Tyunina was awarded the Golden Mask Prize in the “Drama/Best Actress” category for portraying of Annette Scherer, 2002.
