La 2x4 Rosarina Orquesta and the singer Martin Piñol present the golden age of the Argentine tango, the music of the 40s and 50s. Their program includes many legendary tangos by Juan D’Arienzo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Fulvio Salamanca, Carlos di Sarli, Rodolfo Biagi and other Argentine composers. The "Golden Age" of tango is generally agreed to have been the period from about 1935 to 1952, roughly contemporary with the big band era in the United States. Tango was performed by orquestas típicas, bands often including over a dozen performers. The dance matured into one of the most beautiful couple dances the world has ever seen, a subtle, heady blend of sex and chess. Composers, arrangers, lyricists and singers all hit new heights. There were more great orchestras than one could count. It was the period in the Tango's history when all the branches of this extraordinary art were most closely integrated, and each spurred the other on to ever more stunning achievements.
