Mid90s
19:00, 23:20. Drama, comedy. USA 2018, 85 min. Directed by Jonah Hill. Starring: Sunny Suljic, Katherine Waterston, Lucas Hedges, Na-kel Smith. In English with Russian subtitles. This is the directorial debut of actor Jonah Hill: a shout-out to the America of his childhood, without cell phones, internet, or social networks, with music on cassettes and amateur home videos on VHS. Nostalgic, but totally not sentimental. 13-year-old Stevie lives with his mother, who’s more interested in her search for a new boyfriend than in her own children, and his older brother, who is raising his little brother primarily with his fists. The boy runs away from his problematic family to the streets of Los Angeles of the mid-90s and makes friends with a rowdy band of skaters. Together with his new friends, Stevie learns every lesson that the streets can teach him: his first drink, his first hit of weed, and his first awkward attempt at sex. In order to impress the boys, he’s ready to do anything — even the most dangerous jump.

15:00 Nureyev
Documentary. UK 2018, 109 min. Directed by David Morris, Jacqui Morris. In English with Russian subtitles. This striking and moving documentary from BAFTA nominated directors, Jacqui and David Morris, traces the extraordinary life of Rudolf Nureyev, the most famous male dancer that transcended fame in the dance world to become a pop culture icon of his time. It charts his rise from humble beginnings, to his eventual defection to the West, an event that shocked the world. The film contextualises not just the man but also the times in which he lived, discussing the politically charged divide between Russia and the West and the critical role that Nureyev played as a cultural and global phenomena. Blending never-before-seen footage, an original score by award-winning composer Alex Baranowski, and a spellbinding series of exclusive modern dance tableaux directed by Royal Ballet alumnus Russell Maliphant, "Nureyev" is a theatrical and cinematic experience like no other biopic.

13:00 Salvador Dali: In Search of Immortality
Documentary. Andorra 2018, 104 min. Directed by David Pujol. In English with Russian subtitles. The documentary proposes an exhaustive journey through the life and work of Salvador Dalí, and also of Gala, his muse and collaborator. It starts in 1929, a crucial year in Dalí's career and life, as he joined the surrealist group and met Gala, and advances until the year of the artist's death in 1989. In all this vital and artistic journey, Dalí's geographies, especially Portlligat, stand out as the only stable home-workshop he possesses; Figueres, his hometown, where he creates his Dalí Theater-Museum, and Púbol, where the Castle is, exponent of courtly love, which Dalí gives to Gala. But naturally other cities, especially Paris and New York are also central. It is worth noting the numerous documentary contributions that help us get closer to this unique painter of art history, who already has a place assigned among great masters. Contemplating Salvador Dalí himself, Gala, a tour of his creations, family approaches and distancing, all through images and documents, some of them unpublished, brings us closer to a painter who has managed to create a character that is a work of art itself. With this documentary we can go beyond the character and approach the painter and the man, and the spaces conceived by him that have helped to shape his immortality, the immortality of a genius.

15:00 Young Picasso
#ArtInCinemas. Documentary. UK 2018, 90 min. Directed by Phil Grabsky. In English with Russian subtitles. Pablo Picasso is one of the greatest artists of all time - and right up until his death in 1973 he was the most prolific of artists. Many films have dealt with these later years - the art, the affairs and the wide circle of friends. But where did this all begin? What made Picasso in the first place? Somewhat overlooked, it is time to look at the early years of Picasso; the upbringing and the learning that led to his extraordinary achievements.
