Matthias & Maxime (Matthias et Maxime)
23:55. Drama. Canada 2019, 120 min. Directed by Xavier Dolan. Starring: Xavier Dolan, Gabriel D’Almeida Freitas, Pier-Luc Funk, Samuel Gauthier, Antoine Pilon. In French with Russian subtitles. As children, Matthias and Maxime were inseparable friends, but then their paths parted ways. Matthis has a stable job and a good relationship with a nice girl; Maxime has yet to find himself, but has to take responsibility for a careless mother. One day, they agree to act in a student short film together, but things don’t go according to plan: after a kissing scene, Matthis and Maxime unexpectedly wind up in bed together. This intimate moment starts a chain reaction, forcing the young men to doubt their own sexuality and changing their friendship and relationships to their loved ones. Meanwhile, Maxime is planning on traveling abroad for an extended period of time, and there’s not much time left to answer the important questions that have arisen.
