City Lights
12:20. Comedy, Melodrama. USA 1931, 87 min. Directed by Charles Chaplin. Starring: Charles Chaplin, Virginia Cherrill, Harry Myers, Jack Alexander, Al Ernest Garcia, Hank Mann. The little masterpieces of Charlie Chaplin are coming back to the big screen. All films will be screened with the original soundtrack and Russian subtitles. “City Lights” is Chaplin’s last silent film, which was shot during the years of the Great Depression and gave audiences the chance to believe in a happy fairy tale. As he traipses around the streets of the big city, the Tramp meets a blind flower girl. He buys a flower with the last of his money, but the girl takes him to be a rich man. When he finds out that an expensive operation could return her sight, the Tramp sets off in search of money, winding up in funny, awkward, and sometimes even tragicomic situations.

Doctor Sleep

In English with Russian subtitles. A film adaptation of Stephen King’s bestseller and a continuation of the classic novel, “The Shining.” Thirty years after the events at the Overlook Hotel, an older Danny Torrance continues to carry deep traumas in his heart and tries to drown them with alcohol. When he quits drinking and starts working in a hospice, helping the hopelessly sick, his talent for “shining” begins to show yet again, and Danny gets in touch with Abra, a girl with the same gift. But she is in danger: the evil True Knot organization is after her, whose members feed off the shine like vampires. Together, Danny and Abra decide to face them, but this showdown could be deadly for them.

Matthias & Maxime (Matthias et Maxime)

As children, Matthias and Maxime were inseparable friends, but then their paths parted ways. Matthis has a stable job and a good relationship with a nice girl; Maxime has yet to find himself, but has to take responsibility for a careless mother. One day, they agree to act in a student short film together, but things don’t go according to plan: after a kissing scene, Matthis and Maxime unexpectedly wind up in bed together. This intimate moment starts a chain reaction, forcing the young men to doubt their own sexuality and changing their friendship and relationships to their loved ones. Meanwhile, Maxime is planning on traveling abroad for an extended period of time, and there’s not much time left to answer the important questions that have arisen.

Sin (Il Peccato)

In Italian with Russian subtitles. Florence, early XVI century. Although widely considered a genius by his contemporaries, Michelangelo Buonarroti (Alberto Testone) is reduced to poverty and depleted by his struggle to finish the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. When his commissioner and head of the Della Rovere nobility Pope Julius II dies, Michelangelo becomes obsessed with sourcing the finest marble to complete his tomb. The artist's loyalty is tested when Leo X, of the rival Medici family, ascends to the papacy and charges him with a lucrative new commission - the façade of the San Lorenzo basilica. Forced to lie to maintain favour with both families, Michelangelo is progressively tormented by suspicion and hallucinations, leading him to ruthlessly examine his own moral and artistic failings.

The Professor

Richard, a literature professor at a university, finds out that he is terminally ill. He only has half a year left to live. That’s when the strict teacher goes all-out, deciding to permit himself everything that had previously been forbidden. Weed, alcohol, one-night stands, and most importantly, the ability to speak the truth to people’s faces and not fit into the generally accepted rules: all of these become his new favorite pastimes. Richard’s joyous crusade against authority and hypocrisy gives his wife a shock and is met with shouts of joy by his students.
