The Taming of the Shrew
12:00, 19:00. Ballet in two acts to music by Dmitri Shostakovich. 125 min (with one interval). Choreographer: Jean-Christophe Maillot. Set Designer: Ernest Pignon-Ernest. An epic ballet created by Jean-Christophe Maillot in 2014 for the Bolshoi dancers, The Taming of the Shrew is based on Shakespeare’s comedy. While the ballet’s plot generally follows the play, Maillot takes some liberties to make the work less abrasive to modern audiences. The ballet was awarded three 3 Masques d'Ors (best choreographic show, best male dancer (Petruchio) and best female dancer). "I wanted to convey the idea that there's someone for everyone, irrespective of who or what you are. Who can judge a relationship with an outside eye? Love works in mysterious ways, and it isn't for us to question it." J-Ch. Maillot.
