#ArtInCinemas. Documentary. UK 2018, 90 min. Directed by David Bickerstaff. In English with Russian subtitles. "Exhibition on Screen" journeys from a superb exhibition at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, whose extensive collection of Degas’ works is the most representative in Britain, to the streets of Paris. With exclusive access to view rare and diverse works, this film tells the fascinating story of Degas’ pursuit for perfection through both experimentation with new techniques and lessons learnt from studying the past masters.Sometimes frustrated by his own failings, Degas was consumed by obsessive principles and failing eye sight but his determination to capture everyday life was evident in every mark he made. Never fully satisfied, many of Degas’ drawings and sculptures were kept in private during his lifetime but, now through close examination, they can be seen as some of the most beautifully detailed and expressive works in the modern era. Drama, comedy. USA 2018, 85 min. Directed by Jonah Hill. Starring: Sunny Suljic, Katherine Waterston, Lucas Hedges, Na-kel Smith. In English with Russian subtitles. This is the directorial debut of actor Jonah Hill: a shout-out to the America of his childhood, without cell phones, internet, or social networks, with music on cassettes and amateur home videos on VHS. Nostalgic, but totally not sentimental. 13-year-old Stevie lives with his mother, who’s more interested in her search for a new boyfriend than in her own children, and his older brother, who is raising his little brother primarily with his fists. The boy runs away from his problematic family to the streets of Los Angeles of the mid-90s and makes friends with a rowdy band of skaters. Together with his new friends, Stevie learns every lesson that the streets can teach him: his first drink, his first hit of weed, and his first awkward attempt at sex. In order to impress the boys, he’s ready to do anything — even the most dangerous jump. Pioner Cinema on Kutuzovsky |
