19:00 Triumph of Saxophone. Tribute to Stan Getz
The State Chamber Orchestra of Jazz Music "Oleg Lundstrem", artistic director and chief conductor Boris Frumkin. The State Jazz Music Chamber Orchestra of Oleg Lundstrem has a unique history. It is the most "Long Playing" Big Band in the world. This fact is recorded in the Russian Ginnes Book of Records. The credo of the orchestra is in deep penetration into Jazz mastery, into its traditions, on the one hand, and the strive to contribute into the genre by creating and performing of the unique and original jazz compositions and arrangements on the other. Stan Getz (Stanley Gayetzky, 1927-1991) was an American jazz tenor saxophone player. Known as "The Sound" because of his warm, lyrical tone, Getz's prime influence was the wispy, mellow tone of his idol, Lester Young. Early indications off his innate talent became apparent with his ability to play new tunes he would hear- picking them out on the piano or his harmonica. He conducted a fantasy opera orchestra in front of the radio. He would hum all of the famous Benny Goodman clarinet solos from memory. As he studied music, he was instantly good at sight-reading and seemed to have a photographic memory, as well as an instinctive sense of pitch and rhythm.
