Tokio Hotel (Germany)
October 29, 20:00
Izvestiya Hall Izvestiya Hall

Tokio HotelTwins Bill Kaulitz and Tom Kaulitz (born ten minutes before his brother) had been performing since the age of 9. After putting on a show in their hometown of Magdeburg in 2001, Bill and Tom met Gustav Schafer and Georg Listing. Their similar taste in music led to the creation of the band "Devilish". In 2003, the group was approached by music producer Peter Hoffmann and were soon after signed with Universal Music Domestic Division in Hamburg. They were then known as Tokio Hotel ("Tokio" for the lively and engaging city of Tokyo and "Hotel" for the band's constant touring around the country).

Assisted by professionals, Bill co-wrote the majority of the songs on their debut album "Schrei" (Scream). Composed primarily by Bill Kaulitz in tandem with a series of high-profile songwriters "Schrei" was preceded by the August 2005 release of Tokio Hotel's debut single, "Durch den Monsun". By the end of the month the single topped the German pop chart and its Austrian counterpart. The follow-ups "Rette Mich" and "Der Letzte Tag" also hit number one, although the former appeared in a re-recorded version dramatically different from its LP version thanks to Kaulitz's post-pubescent vocal changes.

After the singer wrapped his contributions to filmmaker Luc Besson's animated fantasy 'Arthur and the Minimoys', Tokio Hotel returned to the studio to complete work on their 2007 follow-up album "Zimmer 483". In June 2007 "Scream", the band's first English language album, was released in Europe. The album's tracks were comprised of songs from "Schrei" and "Zimmer 483" that had been translated and re-recorded. "Scream" was released in the United States on April 29, 2008.

Both albums, released before the band members were 18, spawned a string of hit singles including "Durch den Monsun" ("Through the Monsoon"), "Schrei" ("Scream"), "Rette Mich" ("Rescue Me"), "Ubers Ende der Welt" ("Ready, Set, Go!"), "Spring Nicht" ("Don't Jump") and "An Deiner Seite (Ich bin da)" ("By Your Side, (I Am Here)"). The band is noted for their unusually styled, effeminate frontman Bill Kaulitz, who has adopted an emo-goth/'Visual Kei' look, wearing dark eyeliner and makeup, Gothic jewellery, black jackets with spiky, dyed black and white hair.

The Rolling Stone wrote about Bill Kaulitz: "With his over-the-top goth-pop vocals - and even more baroque hairspray-and-mascara styling - the 20-year-old singer has made this German band one of Europe's most popular and irresistible groups."

In 2009, Germany's hottest musical export returned with a new album "Humanoid". The band teamed once again with producer David Jost. "Scream" was an English version of songs culled from Tokio Hotel’s German albums, so the long gap between sessions proved inspirational for the band, and singer Bill Kaulitz says there’s more experimentation this time around.

"At the end of this track we got rid of all the normal song structures," Kaulitz said. "Humanoid" has so many different parts and melodies, it's a weird journey that might be a little confusing at the beginning, but we can’t wait to play it live."

Jost adds that the brothers took on a larger role and a more hands-on approach in the studio for Humanoid. "For the first time, Bill and Tom have co-produced a majority of the tracks on the new album," Jost said. "A lot of things in the studio happened intuitively, although Bill and Tom had a very clear vision of how the tracks should sound production wise in the end."

After some years Tokio Hotel is coming back in Moscow in Octoer 2015 with their Kings of Suburbia album (2014) which has gold status in Russia.

Tokio Hotel's fourth studio album, Kings of Suburbia, finds the German rock outfit moving in a more varied direction with a set of electronic, dance-oriented songs. The band spent five years working on the music, and wrote the bulk of the material in Los Angeles where bandmembers Bill and Tom Kaulitz relocated. Produced by Tokio Hotel, along with Peter Hoffmann and the production duo Rock Mafia, Kings of Suburbia is a largely computer-based album with dubstep- and electro pop-influenced songs that the group later fleshed out with live instrumentation. Included on Kings of Suburbia are the singles "Run, Run, Run", "Girl Got a Gun", and "Love Who Loves You Back".

The fans in Europe, USA and Latin America have saw Tokio Hotel's amazing show. It's time for Moscow to enjoy it!
