This year Show US!, annual festival of American documentary cinema, takes its audience on a truly unforgettable journey, from Connecticut (High School 911) through Western Chelsea (Class Divide) and then straight to Mars (The Mars Generation)! Sarah Moshman, the director of Losing Sight of Shore, will join us in a journey across the Pacific, and world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the founder of The Silk Road Ensemble, who are the protagonists of The Music of Strangers, will teach us to dispose with all kinds of boundaries, whether geographical or cultural, altogether. All films will be shown in English with Russian subtitles.

Sarah Moshman is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TV producer. After studying film at the University of Miami, she worked as a field producer for ABC’s Dancing with the Stars for 10 seasons as well as shows on NBC, MTV, Bravo, Lifetime, and the Food Network often operating as a one-woman crew. In 2012, tired of the way the media misrepresents women; Sarah pursued her dream of making a film that celebrated strong women in the United States by taking a road trip to meet women from all walks of life. The result is the inspiring and award-winning documentary: The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things. Sarah travels to schools, groups, organizations, and corporate offices to screen the film and start an important conversation around empowerment in America today asking audiences: ‘What would you do if you weren’t afraid to fail?’ To date, the documentary has been screened over 300 times in 33 states and 6 countries to audiences as intimate as 5 and as grand as 1,000 and with the help of brands like Nordstom and American Girl.

Sarah and her work have been featured in The Huffington Post, Forbes, Marie Claire, People.com, CNN and on Good Morning America. In addition, Sarah has been speaking at conferences, on panels, and in Fall 2016 she will be gracing the TEDx stage. Her largest audience to date was at WE Day California to a stadium of 16,000 people in February 2015. The power of cinema continues to be Sarah’s passion andLosing Sight of Shore is her second feature-length documentary project about 4 women who set out to row the Pacific Ocean, and she is thrilled to continue to shine light on stories that empower women.

The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things is the incredible journey of 5 female filmmakers driving across America to encourage, empower, and inspire the next generation of strong women to go after their career ambitions. Driving over 7,000 miles from Los Angeles to New York over the course of 30 days, the documentary spotlights 17 positive and powerful women leaders across a variety of lifestyles and industries. Along the way, these filmmakers relay the candid insight on how these women define their success, what it takes to be a woman in their position, and valuable advice on how to improve the female role in the workplace. In celebration of the all-female focus in front of and behind the camera, the filmmakers turned the cameras on themselves, capturing their transformational journey. Created for women by women, they challenge the audience to ask themselves, "What would you do if you weren't afraid to fail?"

Losing Sight of Shore
Documentary. USA 2017, 92 min. Directed by Sarah Moshman. Losing Sight of Shore follows the extraordinary journey of four brave women known as the Coxless Crew that set out to row the Pacific Ocean from America to Australia unsupported. As they row over 8,000 miles during their nine months at sea, they face extreme mental and physical challenges they must overcome in order to go down in history. This is a story of perseverance, friendship and the power of the human spirit. Everyone has a Pacific to cross. At the end of the film you may join Q&A with Sarah Moshman.

The Mars Generation
Documentary. USA 2017, 97 min. Directed by Michael Barnett. Aspiring teenage astronauts reveal that a journey to Mars is closer than you think. Netflix Original Documentaries’ and Time Inc.’s The Mars Generation is the definitive look at mankind’s future journey to Mars, as told through the eyes of the teens who will be the first ever to set foot on the Red Planet, as well as the leading experts currently pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation in space exploration. The film follows a group of trainees, ages 15-18, at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center as they prepare to become the engineers, astrophysicists and astronauts of tomorrow. The audience will also get an inside look into the architecture of the modern space race from the perspectives of the public and private sectors. We will also witness the ways that the teenagers’ progression to become the next generation of space experts mirrors the development of today’s space leaders, and prepares them for mankind’s most challenging expedition yet. The Mars Generation provides insight into the historical, philosophical, and technological implications of becoming a multi-planetary species and reveals that Mars is closer than you think.

Michael Barnett is an Emmy-Award winning filmmaker with a history of telling inspiring, inquisitive, and captivating stories. Michael’s first film, the Emmy-nominated HBO documentary “Superheroes” is a chronicle of the real life superhero community. In 2012, Michael created the production company SuperFilms! and Executive Produced Sundance Selects & IFC’s “Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. In 2016, Michael partnered with Morgan Spurlock for his next film, Showtime’s “Becoming Bulletproof,” an intimate story of a group of filmmakers living with disability which went on to win over 25 Best Doc/Grand Jury/Audience Award prizes. Michael’s latest film “The Mars Generation” is a Netflix Original Documentary, premiering spring 2017, and was selected as one of the opening night films at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

High School 911
Documentary. USA 2016, 86 min. Directed by Tim Warren. A documentary feature film that follows Darien EMS-Post 53, the only ambulance service for the town of Darien, CT. This organization covers one of the deadliest stretches of highway off of I-95 and is rated one of the top in the nation-volunteer or paid-and it's run and operated by high school students. Shot over the course of a year with an exclusive and intimate lens into a 40 year old organization that was a part of the birth of emergency medical service, High School 911 takes you on an epic journey with unlikely heroes: Teenagers. It begs the question: What are teenagers actually capable of when given the opportunity by the adults in their lives? Awards: Impact Docs Award - Special Mention.

Class Divide
Documentary. USA 2017, 79 min. Directed by Marc Levin. Documentary about class division and gentrification in the West Chelsea neighborhood of New York City and its effects on public housing.

The Music of Strangers
Documentary. USA 2015, 96 min. Directed by Morgan Neville. Inspired by the exchange of ideas and traditions along the historical Silk Road, cellist Yo-Yo Ma established the Silk Road Project (Silkroad) in 1998 to explore how the arts can advance global understanding. Since 2000, the musicians of the Silk Road Ensemble have led Silkroad’s work to connect the world through the arts, focusing in three areas: musical performances, learning programs, and cultural entrepreneurship. Representing dozens of nationalities and musical traditions, the musicians of the Ensemble model new forms of cultural exchange through performances, workshops, and residencies. Awards: Grammy Award Nomination - Best Music Film; Bigrafilm International Film Festival - Best Music Film; Golden Reel Award - Best Sound Editing in a Documentary; Provincetown International Film Festival - Best Documentary; Heartland International Film Festival - Most Moving Film Award.
