Moscow City Symphony – Russian Philharmonic has prepared a new multimedia project – Verdi. Requiem and masterpieces of the Renaissance – to opening of the season. Along with immortal music projections of famous paintings will fill in all space of Svetlanov Hall. Requiem is one of the most outstanding compositions by Verdi, which stands in the same row with his best operas and at the same time is his only major composition not for opera theatre. Death of Italian poet and writer, author of the novel Engagement Alessandro Manzoni was the reason for creating Requiem. Verdi admired Manzoni and appreciated his creative work very much. Requeim was performed for the first time on May 22, 1874 in Milan, at St. Mark’s Church conducted by the author and with participation of grand choir, orchestra and the best Italian singers. In a few days Requiem was repeated in the Milan opera house La Scala, then it was performed in Paris, Vienna, Petersburg. Requeim was a great success everywhere.
