19:00 Eugene Onegin
Opera to music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Libretto by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Konstantin Shilovsky. Conductor: Felix Korobov. Sung in Russian. Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin is a very special title for the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. This opera was the Stanislavsky Opera Studio’s first performance staged by Konstantin Stanislavsky, the great reformer of a theatre art. In 1922 his production marked the birth of a new opera house. The first new production of Eugene Onegin since Stanislavsky’s one appeared at this Theatre in 2007. Its creators – Alexander Titel and David Borovsky – treated the legendary Stanislavsky’s version with the utmost respect, but did not copy it at all. The psychological development of the characters remained extremely detailed, and even the columns were preserved as the main element of the decoration. Only the air that the protagonists breathe became different. This is already Onegin of the XXI century, modern and consonant with today’s audience.
