Born in New York City in 1950, Serrano is the son of a Honduran father, who abandoned the family, and an African-Cuban mother, who did not speak English. Serrano developed an early interest in art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and began to study painting at the Brooklyn Museum School at the age of seventeen. While there he discovered photography, but after two years abandoned his formal education due to a drug addiction, and stopped creating art for several years. In the late 1970s, Serrano was able to break his drug dependency and return to photography. After five years of street portraits and landscapes, Serrano produced his first major series that merged his interest in Catholicism and his interest in H Dada and H Surrealist art. In 1985 he began a series of works that incorporated human bodily fluids, and in 1987 he created what has become his signature image, Piss Christ. In 1990 Serrano began a series of portraits of homeless men and women, members of the Klan, and Catholic clerics. In 1992, Serrano investigated the issues of death and violence in a series of photographs taken in a morgue. More recently he created a series of photographs entitled the History of Sexuality. Kandinsky Award 2008 aims to develop Russian modern art, find new interesting projects and artists, define basic tendencies of the artistic process, influence its cultural-aesthetic content, involve new participants and strengthen positions on the world scene. The award takes place for the second time, and this year the exhibition of the nominees moved from WinZavod to the Central House of Artists and took 3,500 square meters. Just like last year, this time everything is exhibited alternately – Siniye Nosy (Blue Noses), Aidan Salakhova, Sergey Shekhovtsov, Sergey Chilikov, Dmitry Tsvetkov – and just like last year it looks a bit absurdly.

Violin d'Angre is a French term used to describe the second talent of a renowned artists. Angre was a painter but his other passion was his violin. He played it well, but remained in the memory of people as a painter. The Exhibition at Pushkin Fine Art Museum presents artworks by famous non-painters who found the limits of their novels, symphonies, films, adagios and parts too tight for their talent. Artworks by Svyatoslav Rikhter, Serge Lifar, Herman Hesse, Fredrik Durrenmatt, Jean Cocto, Dietrich Fisher-Discau, Henry Miller, Tonino Guerra, Mikhail Chekhov, Yuri Zavadsky, Vladimir Vasilyev, Ludmila Petrushevskaya, Vladimir Naumov. All of them are about 30. All of them are cheeky and tactless. They are not familiar with the word ???no??? and prefer to use ???for sure??? instead.
