Kamchatka: Habitaculum
Kamchatka – a theater company, established in 2006 in Barcelona. Kamchatka visited 27 countries and had over 350 shows all around the world. Kamchtka is an artist collective of diverse nationalities which after first meeting in 2006 trained passionately in improvisation on the streets of Barcelona while researching the subject of immigration. This resulted in the creation of a unique, speechless and compassionate theatrical language. In 2007 they created their first critically acclaimed street show entitled ‘Kamchtka’, which moved on to become an international success. In 2010 they premiered “Habitaculum”, a touching living installation which is still performed in festivals worldwide. In 2014 they completed their trilogy with their last show “Fugit”. In June 2016 Spanish Company Kamchatka visited Moscow for the first time with its premier – the performance called Fugit. Fugit is a site-specific theatre. Very new and highly interesting for Russia. The performance was specially adapted for Moscow. The project was supported by the Embassy of Spain in Russia, the Cervantes Institute, the Union of theater workers of the Russian Federation and other cultural organizations. After travelling around with their performances the Kamchatka Group invites you to their home... Habitaculum. This home as an expression of intimacy, a place to meet, a place to exchange their feelings, to experience existence. Wherever the place or time, life in the houses of recently arrived immigrants, their Habitaculum runs according to the rules of their own culture. This place is a bridge between their past and their present. They just arrived, and they want to be accepted by our society without erasing their past, without giving up their identity. Everyone who arrives in a new country or a new house, brings their habits and their experience with them. Could we (local people and newcomers) live together? Running time 270 min. Viewers get to the play every 10 minutes and can spend an unlimited amount of time in the house. The location of the performance is an unusual space in the center of the city (at the request of the Kamchatka Theater, the exact address and point of gathering of the audience becomes known only after purchasing a ticket for the performance).
