14:00 Strangel Air Festival: Camouflage, De/Vision (Germany)
Strangel Air FestivalStrangel Air Festival is an open-air event combining music of different styles: synth pop, new wave, techno, electro and live sound. It's the first Russian open-air event of such format. The festival will held at the entourage place - a prince's site of ancient settlement and a base for stuntman trainings Setunskiy Stan, not far from of the center of Moscow. The headliners of the Strangel Air Festival will be ?amouflage (Germany), De/Vision (Germany), U96 (Germany) and Apoptygma Berzerk (Norway). The German synth-pop trio Camouflage was officially formed in 1984 by vocalist Marcus Meyn and keyboardists/programmers Heiko Maile and Oliver Kreyssig. The group took first place in a radio-sponsored song contest in 1986, and before long, their debut single, "The Great Commandment," was scaling the German charts. Their full-length debut, Voices and Images, was released in 1988, reflecting the group's classic new wave synth-pop influences, but most of all Depeche Mode. 1989's Methods of Silence began to broaden Camouflage's sonic palette, yet the Depeche Mode sound still remained at the forefront. Oliver Kreyssig then left the group, leaving Maile and Meyn as a duo augmented by several studio musicians. By the time of 1991's Meanwhile, Camouflage had garnered a not insignificant following on college radio; the album moved still farther away from synth-pop and incorporated greater instrumentation. However, with the advent of grunge, synth-pop lost a great deal of its footing on college radio; Camouflage soon found itself without an American record deal. 1993's Bodega Bohemia, available only as an import, moved back towards synth-oriented music and took a darker tone than much of their previous work. The mostly instrumental Spice Crackers followed in 1995, after which the future of the band was cast into doubt; a best-of compilation, We Stroke the Flames, was released in Germany in 1997. De/vision is a synth-pop band from Darmstadt, Germany, consisting of vocalist Steffen and keyboardists Thomas and Markus. The trio formed in 1988 and released several full-lengths, EPs, and remix albums. They signed to WEA Records in 1997, and in November 1998 celebrated ten years together by releasing Zehn, a best-of which includes many of their own remixes. Markus left the band in 2000 and De/vision continued as a duo. In 2002, they re-released a live double-CD and a remix album with their biggest hits from 1993-1996. The German techno/dance outfit U96 is comprised of main members Helmut Hoinkins (the group's leader), Hajo Panarinfo (programmer), and Ingo Hauss (mixer and song lyricist), who are joined by others. Together since 1991, the group scored a big hit in their homeland straight away with a techno makeover of Klaus Doldinger's soundtrack theme "Das Boot," a number one hit which obtained platinum certification, which was followed subsequently by such further hit singles as "Heaven" and "Energie." In addition to their singles, U96 has issued three albums stateside thus far, 1992's Das Boot, 1993's Replugged, and 1995's Club Bizarre, while 2001 saw the release of the import-only collection, Best Of: 1991-2001. The Norwegian industrial band Apoptygma Berzerk is actually one Stephan Groth, sometimes known as Grothesk. Groth released his first single as Apoptygma Berzerk in 1991 and got his international break with an appearance on the Sex, Drugs and E.B.M. compilation. He signed with Metropolis Records, which issued a career summation in 1998 entitled The Apopcalyptic Manifesto, a collection of early singles and tracks from the Norwegian album Soli Deo Gloria. The full-length, all-new 7 followed later in the year, and in early 2000 Apoptygma Berzerk resurfaced with Welcome to Earth. Kathy's Song followed a year later. The territory of the festival will also include a restaurant zone, children zone and a music market.
