19:00 Engelbert Humperdinck: Hansel and Gretel
"Opera Masterpieces" series. In program: "Hansel and Gretel" by Engelbert Humperdinck - the opera in concert performance. Performer - Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra of Russia. Soloists: Lidiya Teuscher (soprano, Germany), Lilianna Petrusenko (soprano), Alexandra Kadurina (mezzo-soprano, Ukraine), Kseniya Vyaznikova (mezzo-soprano), Markus Brutcher (tenor, Germany), Stephan Genz (baritone, Austria). Conducted by Richard Farnes (UK), one of the most sought after conductors of his generation. Since 2004 he has been Music Director of Opera North for whom he has conducted highly praised productions of La fanciulla del West, Death in Venice, Otello, La traviata, Giovanna d'Arco, etc. "Hansel and Gretel" is an opera by nineteenth-century composer Engelbert Humperdinck, who described it as a Märchenoper (fairy tale opera). The libretto was written by Humperdinck's sister, Adelheid Wette, based on the Grimm brothers' fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel". It is much admired for its folk music-inspired themes, one of the most famous being the "Abendsegen" ("Evening Benediction") from act 2. The idea for the opera was proposed to Humperdinck by his sister, who approached him about writing music for songs that she had written for her children for Christmas based on "Hansel and Gretel". After several revisions, the musical sketches and the songs were turned into a full-scale opera. Humperdinck composed "Hansel and Gretel" in Frankfurt in 1891 and 1892. The opera was first performed in Hoftheater in Weimar on 23 December 1893, conducted by Richard Strauss. It has been associated with Christmas since its earliest performances and today it is still most often performed at Christmas time.

19:00 Ronny Morris (USA)
Ronny MorrisDanish musician Ronny Morris is no stranger to the music industry. Over the years, his music has been featured on well-known American television programs, such as Brothers & Sisters, Ghost Whisperer, and One Tree Hill. The Hollywood Music Award was presented to Morris in 2008 for "Best Music in a Television Show" as a result of his US television exposure. Morris is a dedicated musician, who often prefers to take his time with projects to achieve the best quality possible. Integrity is not an easy value to preserve in a time of social networking-created superstars, but for a devoted artist such as Morris, it's the only way to succeed. Ronny Morris recently signed a global sync licensing deal with Steven Scharf Entertainment, in association with Carlin Music, who have worked with artists such as The Beatles, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, and the Black Eyed Peas. Ronny Morris' debut album Sweet Silence (2013) is a polished cave of gently wondrous melody and perfectly pitched vocals. His work and energy is well paced and for lack of more descriptive words just simply gorgeous. "I have come to peace with the album. The first couple of months after I could stand listening to it. I was constantly evaluating and it drove me crazy! Then the vocals where too loud, then they where too low, then the mix was not sounding right and so on. I worked around some of my ideas and finally came to a point where I knew that I would do more harm than good if I were to continue. An album recording is a fragile thing. At one point you need to respect what was captured those weeks in the studio and on the other hand you need to work until it's there so it really a great balance that has know to have broken up relationships and started tremendous fights in the studios around the world." The last song which Ronny has wrote before recording the album was I'll Survive. "It was one of those songs that really just came to me. I liked the rhythm of the verses right from the start - it kind of reminded me of a moving train. The momentum and the sliding and twang guitars just paint a simple picture, which I think suits the song. I remember writing the lyrics on a small piece of paper on my way to London, where I was about to record a charity album with Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones and the Small Faces. I think the lyric reflects that time," - Morris. Sweet Silence is a body of work that deserves to be listened to. Not for one attention deficit moment but for a few years at least. Because. Let's face it. It may take another five years or so until the cook feels the soup is ready.
20:00 Straight No Chaser (USA)
Straight No ChaserTaking an unconventional approach from their beginnings at Indiana University in 1996, the male a cappella ensemble Straight No Chaser worked up a repertoire that included not only traditional songs, but also modern pop tunes performed without the use of instruments. Various local performances, including a storied early-morning appearance at the university's annual 36-hour dance marathon, caught the public's attention and helped the ensemble gather a fan base on campus. The original lineup of Straight No Chaser released several albums, toured the Midwest, and even competed nationally at Carnegie Hall before the students graduated and went their separate ways. In 2006, a reunion show was planned for the founding members of Straight No Chaser at Indiana University, and a DVD recording of a 1998 concert was released. Subsequently, video clips of the concert were posted on YouTube and started gathering hundreds of views. One such viewer was Atlantic Records chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, who flew the singers to New York and ultimately offered Straight No Chaser a recording contract. All but two of the original members signed up. Straight No Chaser released their first album, a seasonal effort named Holiday Spirits, in 2008. They also toured heavily, and 2009 found them releasing another holiday album, Christmas Cheers. For the group's next record, Straight No Chaser tackled modern pop hits by bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay, and Oasis. The resulting With a Twist appeared in 2010, marking the group's first non-holiday album. In 2013, Straight No Chaser delivered the album Under the Influence, which featured guest performances from such artists as Phil Collins, Dolly Parton, Jason Mraz, and others. The album was followed by the EP Under the Influence: Holiday Edition, which featured guest appearances from Colbie Caillat, Paul McCartney, and Cee Lo Green. Now Straight No Chaser hit the road with their "Happy Hour UK and Europe Tour 2015". More info
