13:00 Christmas Souvenir. Masterpieces of Sacred Music
Moscow Choral Ensemble of Sacred Music "Blagovest", Music Director and Conductor Galina Koltsova together with presenter Anton Viskov will perform masterpieces of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Poulenc, Gershwin and spirituals. The Blagovest Ensemble was established in 1987, with the initial core of the group formed from an existing church choir. The Ensemble quickly gained recognition both in Russia and abroad due to the uniqueness of its repertoire and the quality of its performances. The singers owe their success to a high standard professionalism and an excellence of liturgical practice. For seventeen years, the Blagovest Ensemble created 60 programs performed in more than 700 concerts. Galina Koltsova, the founder and precentor of the Ensemble, graduated from the Gnesin Institute of Music where she studied choral conducting. For twenty years now she has studied the foundations of Russian Orthodox liturgical practice and the extensive repertoire of the most important clerical schools of composers of XIX th and XX th centuries via the Sinodal Choir (Moscow School) and the Court Choir (St.Petersburg School). She has also managed to combine her activities as a precentor of the St. Nicolos-Archangel church choir with her academic work with the Moscow Boys Chorus. The Blagovest Ensemble`s repertoir consists mainly of the works of Moscow sacred music composers of XIX th and XX th centuries (A. Kastalsky, P. Chesnokov, A. Grechaninov, V. Kalinnikov, A. Nikolsky, N. Cherepnin, and S. Rachmaninov), as well as of a complete rendering of the liturgical and night-service cycles and interpretations of the tunes of XI - XVI th centuries.

19:00 Christmas Concert
The Moscow Virtuosi State Chamber Orchestra, Conductor Vladimir Spivakov together with Soloists: Andrey Mikhailovskiy (clarinet), Anna Aglatova (soprano), Svetlana Shilova (mezzo-soprano), Alexey Neklyudov (tenor), Oleg Tsybulko (bass) will perform W.A. Mozart. Clarinet Concerto in A major, KV 622 and Coronation Mass in C major, KV 317. In 1979 Vladimir Spivakov, an outstanding virtuoso violinist, with a group of his friends and artistic associates, mostly winners of international music competitions, as well as soloists and section leaders of the best Moscow symphonic and chamber orchestras, founded the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Thus, the highest performance standard was set up from the very moment of the orchestra’s establishment, which justified its claim for a rather ambitious, at a first glance, title of Moscow Virtuosi. A really European manner of ensemble performance, concern for tiny details and nuances, solicitous and creative interpretation of author's concepts, bright artistic talent and love both for the pieces performed and for the audience make the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra so different from many other chamber orchestras. The orchestra stands away from aesthetic any snobbery and arrogant attitude to listeners, some of whom might have come to the concert quite by chance. To excite the audience emotionally and to enthrall intellectually every listener, even an ignorant one, to endow him with the pleasure of enjoining music masterpieces, to evoke the desire to come to chamber music concerts again are considered by the Moscow Virtuosi as the most important goals.
