Biography/ Drama/ War. Germany 2015, 114 min. Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. Starring: Christian Friedel, Katharina Schüttler, Burghart Klaußner, Johann von Bülow. In German with Russian subtitles. Only 13 minutes kept carpenter Georg Elser from changing the course of history. On 8 November, 1939 in Munich, he built a homemade time-delay explosive device into a column behind the podium where Hitler was to give a speech. As a result, eight people were killed and sixty-three were injured. However, Hitler was not among those hurt. The Fuhrer, who limited himself to a brief greeting to the collected masses, left the auditorium seven minutes before the explosion, as he needed to return to Berlin. This film reconstructs the sociopolitical context and events of this time in Georg Elser’s life. It is a massive historical drama which watches like a first-class thriller.
