22:15 Christmas, Again
Drama. USA 2014, 80 min. Directed by Charles Poekel. Starring: Kentucker Audley, Hannah Gross, Craig Butta, Heather Courtney, Martin Courtney, Duncan Hannah. In English with Russian subtitles. Brooklyn, a few days before Christmas. The shy Noel is a lonely Christmas tree salesman. His “corner store” is a trailer on an unremarkable street in Greenpoint. Some time ago, his girlfriend dumped him, and this Christmas, he came to New York alone. Day after day, Noel sleepily sells Christmas trees, and it seems that he is slowly disconnecting not just from his colleagues and customers, but from the whole world, until one day he finds an unconscious girl in the park. “Christmas, Again” is the directing debut of 30-year-old Charles Poekel – “the Chekhov of Brooklyn.” This indie Christmas film is a melancholy story about a boy with a broken heart who finally finds his girl. The film owes its unique Christmas spirit to a soundtrack featuring Clara Rockmore’s surprising theremin arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Lullaby. A participant in 2016’s Sundance Festival, and a nominee for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Festival and for the “Independent Spirit” award.
