Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey) is a do-nothing slacker, hopelessly in love with both money and gold, who decides to set off on the hunt for the noblest of metals. And this time, Wells really does get lucky! But the discovery of the richest gold deposit in history is only the beginning of his dangerous adventures. The film is based on the famous, scandalous story of the Bre-X company, who in the mid-90s supposedly discovered unknown gold deposits in Indonesia. 09:20 Sing
Animation. USA 2016, 108 min. Directed by Christophe Lourdelet, Garth Jennings. Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane. In English with Russian subtitles. Finding himself on the edge of financial ruin, the owner of a theatre (who is also a panda) announces a competition for performers. Due to a printing error, the posters advertise a prize of $100,000. The news quickly spreads around the whole town, and a very “diverse” crowd gathers at the audition: Rosita the pig, Johnny the gorilla, Mike the mouse, and Ash the porcupine. Each has a dream, song, and journey of their own. “Sing” is the ideal film for the “Idol”/“Hello, We’re Looking for Talent!” era, shot by Garth Jennings, the creator of music videos for such artists as Robby Williams, Blur, and Radiohead. The British director’s first animated work, this film is first and foremost an encyclopedia of pop music. Here, Frank Sinatra meets Leonard Cohen, and Fred Astaire collaborates with The Beatles. A place is even found for rock “royalty”: while the director entrusted the majority of the hits to his actors, the Gipsy Kings and Queen remain untouched in their original recordings. And none other than the legend of Motown, Stevie Wonder, recorded a new song, “Faith” (with Ariana Grande) especially for the movie, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.
