15:40 Aftermath
Thriller/Drama. USA 2017, 92 min. Directed by Elliott Lester. Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maggie Grace, Kevin Zegers. In English with Russian subtitles. Roman (Arnold Schwarzenegger), while awaiting the arrival of his family, finds out that there’s been a plane crash, and his wife and son were killed. The tragedy occurred by the fault of the air traffic controller, who admitted his guilt. Roman could not forgive him, and decides to get revenge. The film is based on a real event: the Überlingen mid-air collision in 2002, which occurred as a result of a Swiss air traffic controller. Darren Aronofsky produced.

David Lynch – The Art Life
13:40, 18:10, 20:25. Documentary. USA, Denmark 2016, 90 min. Directed by Jon Nguyen, Rick Barnes, Olivia Neergaard-Holm. In English with Russian subtitles. A childhood in Montana, student years in Philadelphia, first experiences in film and the search for his own path in art: this documentary film describes the beginnings of the career of the American cult classic director. The man himself tells a story in which painting, art, and film are closely connected, and it is from this very connection that David Lynch’s art is born. At the heart of the film are home videos and twenty interviews, filmed filmed over the course of three years in Lynch’s studio. At the Venice Film Festival, the film was nominated for the Venezia Classici award for best documentary film about the cinema.

In English with Russian subtitles. The events of the film take place in the near future. Terrorism has reached a new level, and criminals are free to break into human consciousness and control it. A girl, Motoko Kusanagi (Scarlett Johansson), is made into the first cyborg Major, who will lead an elite police division against these cyber-criminals. The first live-action screen adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s cult classic manga, with Scarlett Johansson, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, and Takeshi Kitano in the leading roles.

Johanna, a fragile girl, winds up in an elite special forces unit, comprised exclusively of men. Each of the unit’s brave young men tries to win her attention and the strict discipline and subordination of the unit is ruined. This situation doesn’t suit Eugène – the division commander and a fierce misogynist. He is convinced that there’s nothing for women to do in the special forces, and tries any way he can to dispense of his freshly-minted charge. The antipathy between them grows into a real fight of ambitions, and gradually, they begin to recognize each other better and better… A new comedy by Dany Boon, the mind behind the film “Welcome to the Sticks” / Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis, one of the biggest French box office successes in history. He himself played the role of Eugène.

The true story of Olli Mäki, the famous Finnish boxer who had a shot at the 1962 World Featherweight title. Immensely talented and equally modest, Olli's small town life is transformed when he is swept into national stardom and suddenly regarded as a symbol of his country. There's only one problem: Olli has just fallen in love. Inside of the ring, it's Finland vs. the USA, but outside, boxing and romance become unlikely adversaries vying for Olli's attention. Spanish actress Macarena Granada runs from Nazi Germany to the United States. Having won the hearts of Hollywood, she returns to Spanish 18 years later in order to play the role of Spanish Queen Isabella I, which she has dreamt of for a long time. In postwar Spain, she meets friends and colleagues from the past and understands that life in her native country is already different from what it used to be. A comedy by Oscar winner Fernando Trueba, with Penélope Cruz in the main role, which sends up the golden age of Hollywood and the film business as a whole. The film’s world premiere took place at the Berlin Film Festival.

The Zookeeper’s Wife

In English with Russian subtitles. In 1939, Nazi Germany has just begun the Second World War by invading Poland. The Warsaw Zoo has suffered greatly from bombings: a number of animals died, others ran away, and still more were actually taken as prizes by the Germans. Jan Zabinski and his wife Antonina decide to use the now-unoccupied areas of the zoo to hide Jews sneaking out of the Warsaw ghetto. The film is based on the real story of a Polish zookeeper’s family, who earned the title of Righteous Among the Nations for hiding Jews during the Nazi occupation.

Comedy/Drama. Great Britain 2016, 100 min. Directed by Simon Aboud. Starring: Jessica Brown Findlay, Tom Wilkinson, Andrew Scott, Jeremy Irvine. In English with Russian subtitles. Bella Brown works in a library and dreams of writing a successful children’s book. At home, she runs a tight ship, but she just can’t seem to get around to the garden. Her elderly neighbor Alfie, who has an extraordinarily foul character alongside his talent as a gardener, regularly chides her for a brewing “eco-apocalypse,” and eventually complains to her landlord. Now Bella has a month to get the garden under control and avoid eviction. A contemporary fairy tale in which love transforms all around, and the most meaningless things end up being the most important – much like in the famous “Amélie.” With Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott, and Tom Wilkinson.

In an attempt to answer the questions that are torturing her, Una begins to seek out a meeting with him. The film is based on Scottish playwright David Harrower’s famous play, “Blackbird.” The leading roles are played by Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn.

16:00 Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey
Documentary. France, Germany, USA 2016, 90 min. Directed by Terrence Malick. In English with Russian subtitles. Terrence Malick’s monumental documentary project, dedicated to the history of the Universe – from the birth of the stars until the appearance of life and beginning of humanity. The project was conceived of by the director in the 1970s, but fully realized only last year: it premiered at the Venice Film Festival. A variety of colors, the rotation of the planets, the eruption of volcanoes and the appearance of life from nothing: as Malick himself assures, this is one of his greatest dreams. The film is narrated by Cate Blanchett.
