100 Years of Performance
100 Years of Performance, curated by Klaus Biesenbach, PS1 Chief Curatorial Advisor and MoMA Chief Curator of Media and Performance Art, and RoseLee Goldberg, Director and Curator of Performa, will trace the development of performance art over the past century with a wealth of assembled archival documents, photography, film, and audio materials, culminating in a performance festival starting from the Futurist Manifesto in 1909 until the present day. The exhibition features works by Yayoi Kusama, Yoko "Ono’s Cut Piece" (1965); Francis Alys’ "When Faith Moves Mountains" (2002); Matthew Barney’s "Drawing Restraint" (2005).

All the World's a Stage
Tretyakov Gallery welcomes "All the World's a Stage" exhibition covering the famous Russian avant-garde artists Mikhail Larionov's collection of printed graphics. Mikhail Larionov and his wife left Russia in 1915, joint the then touring in Europe Dyagilev ballet troupe as a costume and scenery designers and stayed in Paris. The exhibition features about 300 works – just a tiny part of Larionov's vast collection of some 10,000 items. M.Larionov had quite an eclectic taste in collecting: he collected Jacques Callot and Kitagawa Utamaro's works, magazine lithographs and xylographs of the late 19th century, theatre posters (circus posters, cinema posters, etc) of the late 18th-early 20th centuries, oleographs, heliogravures, illustrations from the hand-to-hand textbooks, to name a few.

Art-Moscow
Art-Moscow is the first Russian art fair featuring high quality contemporary art, fully in accordance with international standards. The primary goal is to create an ideal environment for the exhibition of art works in Moscow. Art-Moscow focuses on new international trends, mostly 21st century and late 20st century art, but welcomes classical Modernism, which greatly influenced the development of 20st century art. All exhibitors at Art-Moscow are chosen and invited to attend by a high profile Expert Council of Russian and international experts. Among the participants are Wetterling Gallery (Stockholm, Sweden), Knoll Galleries (Vienna, Austria – Budapest, Hungary), Forsblom Gallery (Helsinki, Finland) and lots of others.

Carsten Holler: Giant Triple Mushrooms (Germany)
Carsten HollerCarsten Holler's five Giant Triple Mushrooms are 3-dimensional collages of enlarged replicas of mushrooms occurring wild in Eurasia, they vary in size from 1 meter to 2.6 meters. Half of their composition is created from a fly-agaric mushroom, (Amanita muscaria), which is poisonous and psychoactive, the other half is composed of two randomly chosen mushrooms. The six month installation will mark the beginning of a twice-yearly series of contemporary works to be exhibited within our Entrance Space. Carsten Holler has realized several works with the fly-agaric mushroom, including the Mushroom Suitcase series and the Upside Down Mushroom Room (2000), which was shown in 2005 at MOCA in Los Angeles. Carsten's works have been shown internationally over the last two decades, including solo exhibitions at Fondazione Prada, Milan (2000), the ICA Boston (2003), Musee d'Art Contemporain, Marseille (2004), MASS MoCA, (2006), and Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria (2008). In 2006, he conceived the giant slide instalation Test Site at the Turbine Hall in London’s Tate Modern, and represented Sweden at the 51st Biennale di Venezia.

Francesco Vezzoli (Italy)
The exhibition will document Francesco Vezzoli's highly visual performance which took references from "Le Bal" (1935), the only one of the Ballet Russes ever to be designed by Balanchine in collaboration with the Italian artist, the surrealist Giorgio de Chirico. Vezzoli collaborated to conceive every detail of the interior space, the piano-art work by Damien Hirst and the costumes by Miuccia Prada to create a ‘living, breathing artwork’. The work included an elaborate combination different genres of video, petit-point embroidery, photography and live performance.

Masterpieces of the 20th Century
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art opens its doors to the exhibition, Masterpieces of the 20th Century, from the Collection of the Valencia Institute of Modern Art, IVAM - the first museum of modern art in Spain. The exhibition is composed of an extensive and select set of works from the Valencian Institute of IVAM and has the objective of bringing to the public the best pieces in their collection. The show is composed of a selection of the avant-garde of the first decades of the 20th century and of all art tendencies of the postwar period. It is set up so that a visitor who may not necessarily be a specialist, may recreate, through many of its most outstanding protagonists, the adventure of art in the twentieth century. The exhibition opens with Julio Gonzalez’s oeuvre together with the works by Torres Garcia, a Uruguayan artist of the early 20th century and continues with kinetic sculptures by Alexander Calder, installations by Kurt Schwitters and Man Ray, abstract works by Frantisek Kupka and works by classic Surrealist and Dadaist masters Joan Miro, Marcel Duchamp, Andr? Masson and Jean Arp. There are works by European masters such as Antoni Tapies, Antonio Saura, Karel Appel, Ad Reinhardt, Pierre Soulages, and works by celebrated American artists, such as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg and Richard Serra. Works by American Pop-art artists, such as Richard Hamilton, James Rosenquist and European representatives of this approach, such as Eduardo Arroyo, Equipo Cronica group and others will also be exhibited.

Petr Konchalovsky. To the Evolution of Russian Avant-Garde
Scale exhibition of works of Petr Konchalovsky (1876–1956) – the joint project of the Tretyakov gallery, Russian museum and “Petr Konchalovsky's Foundation”. From a numerous heritage of one of the most prolific domestic artists 90 best canvases were selected - the recognised masterpieces executed in 1910 – 1950th years. However the accent in the exhibition concept is made on 1910s when P.Konchalovsky was the organizer and the leader of a society "A Jack of Diamonds" when the master tendencies of the French art were strongest. Favourite genres and motives of products of the artist, including a portrait, a self-portrait, a still-life will be presented. The largest program cloths of 1910s are included in the exposition – "The Family portrait" (1911, State Russian museum), "Self-portrait with Family (Siena Portrait)" (1912, Tretyakov gallery), "In a workshop. A family portrait' (1917, Petr Konchalovsky's Foundation), the Spanish series (1910), the well-known still-lives.

Phenomenon of Lithuanian School. Western Photography in USSR
"Phenomenon of Lithuanian School. Western Photography in USSR" is an exhibition featuring 250 influential works by three classics of Lithuanian photography - Antanas Sutkus, Aleksandras Macijauskas, Vitalijus Butyrinas – who participated in the legendary exhibition at the Central House of Journalist in 1969 followed by the article in the "Soviet Photo" magazine where the term "Lithuanian School" was used for the first time. Creative works of these three acknowledged photographers are united by one theme – Lithuania and its people. Since 2000 the works by Antanas Sutkus, Aleksandras Macijauskas, Vitalijus Butyrinas have been exhibited at the National Library (USA, New York), State History Museum (Sweden, Stockholm), Forum fur Zeitgenosische Fotografie (Germany, Koln), Das Baltische Fotolinse (Germany, Bern), Museum of New Mexico, Museum of Fine Arts (USA).

Res Publica
"Res publica" project, based on the collection of the National Center for Visual Arts of France, incorporates the artworks of the artists who consider art a space for thinking and whose works appeal to reflection on the surrounding social-political reality and our relations with the world. The title of the exhibition refers to the Latin term "res publica" meaning "common cause" or "nation's cause". In ancient times it was believed to be of greatest value for any person and became a pillar of contemporary interpretation of the state, and particularly, republic. The exhibition unites compositions of different genres (video, photographs, painting, drawing, architectural models, installations) by the artists from all over the world who express their opinions on this broad topic. For example, Mounir Fatmi portrays the image fo the world after 9/11event in New York analyzing its origin (installation "Save Manhattan 01", 2003-2004, and photographs from the "Connections" series 2004-2007). Rebecca Bournigault appeals to the theme of a protest against the global world system and to the image of the contemporary rebel (the "Rebels" series of watercolours, 2005). Olivier Menanteau suggests having a look at the "kitchen" of political mass-media (the "Media Alert" series of photographs 2006-2007). Cyprien Gaillard makes a connection between contemporary new building, city development policy and social life of the "dormitory districts" ("Desnyansky District", video 2007).

Richard Hambleton: New York (USA)
Moscow Museum of Modern Art, in conjunction with curators Andy Valmorbida and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, present the exhibition of Richard Hambleton, legend of New York street art of the 80’s. Richard Hambleton, American pop-expressionist, an intellectual and experimentalist, the godfather of contemporary street art, shocked New York in the 80’s with his provocative actions. Having influenced the minds of several generations, Hambleton, together with his associates Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, has left his mark in the history of American contemporary art. The display presents 35 works by the artist; among them, 15 have never been exhibited before. ‘He ranks among the most influential street artists in the world, his story being truly unique. Hambleton’s art is ingenious,’ the curators claim. Graduate of San Francisco Art Institute, Hambleton has always preferred public spaces to studios, and started his career in the city streets. In 1976, his first famous series of works appeared, entitled "Crime Scenes". During three years, different cities became sites for artistic imitations of murders — images on the pavements mimicked chalk body outlines and splattered blood of what appeared to be ‘victims’. The press was indignant, while the first reaction of happenstance witnesses was shock. This was exactly what the artist strove to achieve — the emotional impact on the spectator, no matter what it was, rapture or rejection.

Roger Ballen: Documentary Fiction (USA)
This autumn Moscow will see for the first time photographs of one of the most extravagant living classics ever Roger Ballen. He calls his works "documentary fiction" – a kinds of a harmonious combination of documentation, symbolism and abstract esthetics. Roger Ballen's works evolved from reportage shooting to subjective documentation. Graduating from the Berkeley University in 1972 Ballen set off hitch-hiking around the globe. It resulted in his first book (Boyhood, 1979). This book and his sophomores "Dorps: Small Towns of South Africa, 1986" and "Platteland: Images from Rural South Africa, 1994" still fitted themselves in "street photography" though already featured the note of unreality: In "Outland" (2001) as well as in the followed-up "Shadow Chamber" (2005) and especially in "Boarding House" (2009) Ballen is diverging more and more from the familiar plots to be inspired by the slough of subconscious. Roger Ballen's works are on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa, New York), at the Centre Georges-Pompidou (Paris), at the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), at the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) and others famous public and private collections.

Synaxis: Collection of Greek Icon Painting
"Synaxis: Collection of Greek Icon Painting on Wood and Paper: 1450-2000" is a unique retrospective of the Orthodox art of the XV-XX centuries resulted from the long-term collaboration of Pushkin Fine Arts Museum with other museums and private collectors of Greece. The word of Greek origin "synaxis" featured in the title can be translated as a meeting of believers aimed at spiritual improvement by singing psalms and reading the Holy Writ. The exhibition features icons from Emilios Velimezis' collection host by the Benakis Museum in Athens and "Alexander S. Onassis" Public Fund; contours (the so-called "prorisi" - outlined icons), sketches and other works of icon painting by the famous Greek artists from 1450 to the present time from the collections of Christos and Emilios Margaritis and Alexandros Makris; three rare icons from the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum funds and the XV-century icon "Pantocrator" (the only Cretan icon from Georgios Kostakis' collection). Altogether the exhibition features 130 works.
The Master of Moscow
The State Historical Museum hosts an exhibition "The Master of Moscow" timed to the 200th anniversary of the Moscow governor-general Vladimir Andreevich Dolgoruky (1810-1891). For those 25 years when he governed Moscow wisely, it turned from a small patriarchal town into the major trade and industrial centre. Several important reforms were conducted, water supply was improved, gas lighting was launched as well as the first horse-drawn railway, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was built, and the State Historical Museum was opened. Among the exhibition items are presents to the governor-general from the grateful Muscovites, painting, graphics, and the unique photographic panorama of Moscow shot from the highest point of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, as well as pictures by V.Perov, A.Savrasov, I.Levitan and a multi-media presentation "Views, types, scenes of urban life of the late 19th century" based on albums and rare photographs.
