Fidan Kasimova is one of the most outstanding singers of the former USSR opera scene. She was born in Baku, and graduating from the Bulbul Music School she entered Gadzhibekov State Conservatory in 1966 where she had two majors at the same time - vocal and violin. After graduation Fidan took postgraduate courses at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1973 she participated in the International Competition of Young Performers in Geneva (Switzerland) and won the second prize. In 1974 she became a soloist of the State Opera House.
