 The MusicAeterna orchestra will perform works by J.S. Bach. The orchestra was founded by conductor Teodor Currentzis in 2004. Musicians from 12 countries and 20 cities are members of the ensemble, and its repertoire embraces both ancient and modern music, masterpieces and iconic pieces of 19-20th centuries, as well as daring experimental works by contemporary composers. Both Orchestra and Choir are constant participants of high-acclaimed international festivals, and perform at only best venues in Russia and abroad. Since the fall of 2019, musicAeterna has status of independent music collective. Last December saw the opening of musicAeterna residency in St Petersburg House of Radio; it helps unite creative and educational programmes, as well as experimental and scholar projects that embrace different areas of contemporary art. Conductor, composer and pianist Gregor A. Mayrhofer became Sir Simon Rattle’s assistant at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017. Graduate of the Juilliard School, Gregor A. Mayrhofer studied conducting with Alan Gilbert.

 This orchestra is also known as the Osipov Balalaika Orchestra and the Osipov National Academics Folk Instruments Orchestra of Russia. The history of the Orchestra is full of triumphs, constant searches for perfection and unexpected turns of fate. The Orchestra was founded in 1919 by two prominent musicians: balalaika player Boris Troyanovsky and domrist Pyotr Alexeyev. The first concert of this orchestra became the birthday of the First Moscow Great-Russian Orchestra of Folk Instruments. Very soon the Orchestra started touring the USSR performing in virtually every region of the enormous country — from Sakhalin to Carpaths and from White Sea to Caucasus. During those years the official name was changed twice — in 1928 to The All-Russian Radio Committee Folk Instruments Orchestra and in 1936 to The State Folk Instruments Orchestra of USSR. When the prominent Soviet musician Nikolai Ossipov was appointed Chief Conductor and Music Director in 1940 it became a new page in the history of the Orchestra. Since 2009 the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of The Ossipov Balalaika Orchestra is Maestro Vladimir Andropov, one of the most talented and prominent musicians of Russia. With him the Orchestra continues to preserve and develop the best traditions of Russian folk music.
