| Hello, I am from germany and I have a Visa from my company. It's not in my passport but a green card with picture and so on... Now it's only valid till end of October but after that it will be prolonged for another year or so I was told by our legal department. But nevertheless I want to obtain a residence permit. From all that I have read, for the first year that will be a 'temporary' one. Must I obtain a different Visa for that? For my work I need to be able to go in and out of russia quite fast and flexible. And if I need to obtain a exit/entry-visa every time I doubt that this would be flexible enough. Or can I use my work-visa for that year until I opbtain a permanent residency permit? |

Dear Dietrich,
Temporary residence is a document proving the right of a foreign to reside in Russia before obtaining of Residence permit. Temporary residence permit is issued for 3 years. Procedure of obtaining Temporary residence permit is the following:
You apply for a visa of a temporary residing person (4 month single entry visa) and then you apply for a Temporary residence permit (this part of process might take up to 6 month).
After obtaining Temporary residence permit visa of a temporary residing person have has to be prolonged. If a foreign citizen wants to exit Russia he/she should apply for an exit/entrance visa.
Rights and obligations of Temporary residing foreign citizen:
1. Temporary residing foreign citizen can not change at his wish place of residence within the territory of the region where he/she obtained Temporary residence permit, or to reside outside the region where he/she obtained Temporary residence permit.
2. Temporary residing foreign citizen can not work outside the region where he/she obtained Temporary residence permit.
After obtaining Temporary residence permit and residing on its basis no less than for a year foreign citizen may apply for a Residence permit. Residence permit enables foreign citizen to travel to and out of Russia without visa.
And finally, to answer your question about using your work visa for this year - it won't be possible as you will need to enter Russia on single-entry visa of a temporary residing person (not entry-exit visa). You cannot have in your passport two valid Russian visas at the same time. Good Luck! |
