Opera by Jules Massenet. 210 min (with two intermissions). Libretto by Henri Meilhac and Philippe Gille. Music Director and Conductor: Felix Korobov. Conductor: Timur Zangiev. Sung in French. The short novel by Abbé Prévost, Manon Lescaut (L'Histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut) has greatly influenced French literature. The Massenet’s opera has likewise determined the evolution of the operatic genre in France. Manon can be rightly called the quintessence of opera in general. It contains everything opera is loved for – tumultuous passions and beautiful melodies. Young Manon by decision of the parents goes to the monastery. On the road, it must meet and help make a transplant cousin Lescaut, who is not too closely patronizes inexperienced cousin. Having gone to the gambling house, Lescaut Manon leaves one. Charming woman immediately attracts the attention of two wealthy gentlemen - Guillot de Morfontainei de Brétigny. Manon rejected their claims. Part of the young Chevalier des Grieux. Young people are in a mutual feeling of love. Manon and des Grieux together leave for Paris...
