Opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi. Libretto by Temistocle Solera, based on the play "Attila, König der Hunnen" by Zacharias Werner. Performed by Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre production. 140 min (with two intervals). Sung In Italian. Music Director and Conductor: Artem Makarov. Director: Ildar Abdrazakov. Set Designer, Director: Ivan Skladchikov. Set in mid 5th century Rome, the opera premiered on March 17th, 1846 at the La Fenice Opera House in Venice Italy and tells the story of Attila the Hun and his downfall in Rome. Attila is enjoying the spoils of his conquest of Aquileia including the capture of Odabella, daughter of the lord of the city. But the arrival of Pope Leo I, the very image of the man Attila has seen in a dream forewarning him of disaster if he attempts to take Rome, stymies any thoughts he had of attacking the city. The warlord has another problem too: by falling in love with Odabella, he has given her the perfect opportunity to kill him and avenge her father's death. Indeed, so intent is she on despatching Attila herself that she foils Ezio, a Roman consul, and her fiancé Foresto’s own plot to murder their common enemy. When Odabella persuades Attila to let her mete out Foresto’s punishment, the failed assassin begins to wonder where her true loyalties lie. It’s all a ruse, however, to gain Attila’s trust.
