19:00 L'italiana in Algeri
Opera by Gioachino Rossini. 180 min (with intermission) Libretto by Angelo Anelli. Music Director and Conductor: Felix Korobov. Conductor: Vyacheslav Volich. Sung in Italian. L'italiana in Algeri, which Stendhal dubbed "the supreme achievement in the buffo genre", was composed by Rossini in 1813. The premiere performance took place on May 22, 1813 at the San Benedetto theater of Venice. Having pretty soon conquered Europe, "The Italian Girl" found itself in Russia, where an Italian company produced it in Moscow at a theater on Znamenka Street. After that the Russian stage history of the opera had halted for almost two hundred years until the Zazerkalye Theatre of St. Petersburg mastered the Gioachino Rossini’s score. At the same time, however, the opera had been performed at various Russian concert halls. Zara Dolukhanova’s performance of Isabella in the opera’s concert version in 1955 at the Moscow Pillared Hall. Then, in 2010, L'italiana in Algeri was performed at the Moscow Conservatory Great Hall conducted by the famous Rossinian maestro Alberto Zedda. And now the stage version of the Rossini opera has appeared at the K. S. Stanislavsky and V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre.
