 Master of aural gloom and suspense, the Japanese musician and composer Akira Yamaoka is best-known for his work on the soundtrack for the Silent Hill video game series, where he used a mixture of ambient, trip-hop, rock, and industrial to chilling effect. The Niigata-born Yamaoka initially wanted to be a designer, and graduated from Tokyo Art College, but fell under the sway of artists such as Mick Karn of Japan and Steve Strange of Visage, who, in Yamaoka's words, "combined the notions of Art and Music with their own new style." He debuted in 1991 with the soundtrack to Smart Ball game, done with Yasuhiko Fukuda and Manabu Saito; in 1993, he joined Konami and continued to work on game soundtracks, keeping a relatively low profile through most of the ‘90s. His big break came in 1999, when he convinced the producers that he was the man to score the first Silent Hill game. It was a best-seller, and Yamaoka became the main composer for the whole franchise (excluding two minor spin-offs), adding duties as the producer of the game after Silent Hill 3 (2003). Music from Silent Hill 2 was performed at the Symphonic Game Music Concert in Leipzig in 2005, and in 2006, some compositions from the series were included in the "Play! A Video Game Symphony" live performance, Yamaoka with a seven-string guitar sharing the stage with an orchestra at its world premiere in Chicago.

 The group was founded as an attack on the increasingly neo-Nazi influenced German techno scene and consisted of three Berliners - Alec Empire, Hanin Elias and MC Carl Crack. ATR's early releases were surrounded by controversy in Germany. In 1997 ATR was joined by Nic Endo, a Japanese-German-American noise/soundscape artist during the Beck tour. Their live shows during this time were characterized by violence. An outdoor show in Berlin on May 1st 1999 resulted in the arrests of all of the band members for "inciting violence" after crowds, assembled for an anti-NATO protest, rioted with police (the charges were later dropped). In another incident, a security guard in Brazil was allegedly hospitalized after being beaten by Elias with a microphone. In 1999 ATR released 60 Second Wipe Out. The album featured a number of guest artists including New York City rappers The Arsonists. The group effectively disbanded in 2000. In June 2002, Hanin Elias left DHR to create Fatal Recordings, a label formed exclusively for female artists, similar to her DHR Fatal offshoot label. Empire produced the track "You Suck" for her debut album No Games, No Fun; however, in the album's artwork, specifically in a collage of collaborators, Empire's face is blacked out, signifying the end of their professional relationship. The other half of the band continue to work together.

 Modeselektor have been shaping the electronic music scene since the early 2000s with their flamboyant DJ sets and genre-melding productions. After their last album release in 2011 and the following Modeselektor live tour, they’ve been busy with Moderat, their side project with Apparat – being both in the studio and extensively on the road. Now it’s time for Modeselektor LIVE again – come out and join them for their trademark adventures into sound, bass and beats! Modeselektor’s new album ‘Who Else’ was out on February 22nd 2019. It had been in the works for two years and was made within a month. It’s a record offering essential Modeselektor, a record formed by experience, self confidence and the usual madness. It raises a question and answers it straight away. ‘Who Else’ is yet another counteraction to boredom and formulaic approaches. Hear Modeselektor casually kicking against the pricks. Somebody’s gotta do it. Who else?

 Norwegian black metal band Taake is primarily the work of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist U. Høst, who founded the group in 1993 amid the rash of church burnings and other crimes virtually responsible for launching the scene. Recruiting drummer Svartulv, over the next three years Høst recorded a series of demos steeped in ancient Viking lore and ruthlessly brutal black metal values. Finally debuting commercially in 1996 with the Koldbrann I Jesu Marg EP (featuring new drummer/bassist Tundra), Taake went on to release two full-length albums, 1999's Nattestid and 2002's Bjoergvin, before Høst left to join fellow Norwegian black metallers Ragnarok as vocalist. Released in 2005, Hordalands Doedskvad featured a handful of guest vocalists, including Nattefrost and Nordavind from Carpathian Forest, and Taipan from Orcustus. Høst put the band on semi-hiatus shortly after the album's release, but continued to issue EPs and make the odd festival appearance. After enduring a flurry of lineup changes, Høst elected to go it alone, releasing an eponymous full-length in 2008 via his own Svartekunst Produksjoner label. Arriving in 2011, the acclaimed Noregs Vaapen saw Høst working with Attila Csihar, Nocturno Culto, Demonaz, and Ivar Bjørnson, and in 2013 he issued Gravkamre, Kroner Og Troner, a compilation LP marking the band's 20th anniversary. The following year saw Taake make their American debut at the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore and release their sixth full-length outing, Stridens Hus. Kong Vinter followed in 2017 via Norwegian indie Karisma Records.
