Fight Club
20:50. Thriller, drama, crime. USA 1999, 139 min. Directed by David Fincher. Starring: Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf, Jared Leto. In English with Russian subtitles. This cult classic film that transformed the minds of Generation X returns to the big screen. Based on Chuck Palahniuk’s novel of the same name, David Fincher created a complex phantasmagorical construction based on bitter disappointment in the American drama and the hopeless search for lost manhood. The result was a brash mix of outstanding filmmaking, sharp satire, dark philosophy, and a death sentence to the contemporary culture of consumption, which is no less relevant today than when it was released 20 years ago.

The Death and Life of John F. Donovan
09:20. Drama. Canada, UK 2018, 123 min. Directed by Xavier Dolan. Starring: Kit Harington, Natalie Portman, Jacob Tremblay, Emily Hampshire. In English with Russian subtitles. The English-language debut of Canadian film wunderkind Xavier Dolan is a piercing drama about solitude, the indifference of society, and the other side of fame. 11-year-old Rupert lives with his mother in England and goes to a school where his classmates pick on him. The only joy in his life is his favorite television show with his idol, John F. Donovan. The 29-year-old actor lives in New York and has everything: fame, money, fans, and a beautiful girlfriend. However, in reality, he’s just as alone as the young British schoolboy — and the two are connected by one other shared secret. When it becomes apparent, John kills himself. Only after 12 years does Rupert decide to share what happened.
