Theatre HD Live in Cinema: Il Barbiere di Siviglia
15:00. Theatre HD Live in Cinema. Opera in two acts by Gioachino Rossini. 180 min (with one intermission). Director: Bartlett Sher. Conductor: Maurizio Benini. Starring: Peter Mattei, Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Flórez, John Del Carlo, John Relyea. In Italian with Russian subtitles. Rossiniís operatic masterpiece "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" ("The Barber of Seville") has been staged all over the world, and even children recognize Figaroís famous aria, while "Figaro qua, Figaro là and La calunnia è un venticello" have become bywords. The witty Rossini, being not only an outstanding composer but also a brilliant cook, developed the recipe for the operaís incessant, astounding success. Here it is: take seven bright characters and an intoxicating love intrigue, spice the mixture with humorous dialogues, dress with wonderful melodies and sprinkle virtuosic ensembles on top. Peter Mattei and Rodion Pogossov share the title role of the barber in Bartlett Sher's popular production, which propels the comic action right into the audience. Isabel Leonard sings her first Met Rosina, sharing the role with Diana Damrau, and Javier Camarena makes his Met debut as the Count.
