Capital in the Twenty-First Century
11:30. Documentary. France, New Zealand 2019, 103 min. Directed by Justin Pemberton. In English with Russian subtitles. This film is based on the best-selling book by French economist Thomas Piketty. It is a bold, powerful statement on the nature of wealth and power which breaks down the widespread notion that the accumulation of capital goes hand-in-hand with progress. Traveling through time from the French Revolution to the World Wars and other global historical shifts to contemporary pop culture and the development of technology, the film sheds new light on the inner workings of the world around us, growing socioeconomic inequality and a troubling future in which two-thirds of people will be poorer than their parents.
