Tale of Tales
12:20. Fantasy. Italy, France, UK 2015, 134 min. Directed by Matteo Garrone. Starring: Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, Toby Jones, John C. Reilly, Alba Rohrwacher. In English with Russian subtitles. Three stories and three kingdoms. In the first part a lustful king is seduced by the voice of seemingly charming maidens, one of whom he seduces only to discover she is in actual fact an ugly old woman. In the second one — a monarch goes fighting with a sea dragon: a magician foretells that his wife the queen will only be able to fall pregnant if she eats the heart of the dragon. In the third story the King Altomonte lovingly breeds a gigantic flea, but when it dies the king decides to give away his daughter’s hand in marriage to a mountain ogre. This is the intriguing and dreadful world of gothic fantasy, where reality intertwines with dreams.
