A documentary film, shot in 3D to celebrate the 100th birthday of Merce Cunningham, tells the story of the great American choreographer who didn’t just film many groundbreaking performances but effectively raised a new generation of choreographers. The film consists of archive footage and reconstructions of dances created by Merce Cunningham from 1942 to 1972. Aside from Cunningham’s notes on choreography, you can also her the stories of dancers, artists, architects, and musicians who worked with him, including Merce’s closest collaborator, John Cage. Besides this, the choreographer collaborated with leading figures in the post-war avant garden, from Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg to Jasper Johns and Frank Stella.
