14:25 Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (Kaze no Tani no Naushika)
Adventure, family, anime. Japan 1984, 117 min. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki. In Japanese with Russian subtitles. Princess Nausicaa from the Valley of the Wind lives in a world that is going through an environmental crisis. Nature has changed beyond the point of recognition, the people who remain are constantly at war, but the greatest danger lies in the Jungle, threatening to swallow the entire world and destroy humanity. Preserving the delicate balance between nature and human falls to the good-hearted and brave Nausicaa, who has a unique gift: finding a common language with the denizens of the Toxic Jungle. “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” became the “north star” of the legendary Studio Ghibli. The team behind the future studio came together while working on the film: it was produced by Isao Takahata, Hayao Miyazaki’s friend and colleague. The success of Nausicaa’s study led to the formation of Studio Ghibli, and from that moment on, the names Miyazaki and Takahata became inextricably tied with the new studio.

Promise at Dawn (La Promesse de l’aube)
09:20, 23:50. Melodrama. France, Belgium 2017, 131 min. Directed by Eric Barbier. Starring: Pierre Niney, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Didier Bourdon, Jean-Pierre Darroussin. This is a film adaptation of Romain Gary’s autobiographical novel, which tells the story of a mother’s boundless love. When the future Goncourt Prize winner was still a child, his mother took it into her head that he would become a diplomat, soldier, and world-famous writer. Regardless of how the people around her would laugh, and how her son sometimes doubted his own abilities, she continued to believe in him steadfastly — and all of her wildest dreams came true. A mother’s love and unconditional support carried Romain through all the trials and tribulations of his life, full of secrets, battles, and unbelievable twists and turns.

09:10 Vice
Drama, comedy, biography. USA 2018, 132 min. Directed by Adam McKay. Starring: Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Jesse Plemons. In English with Russian subtitles. The 46th Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney, is one of the most influential politicians of the 20th century, who permanently altered the course of history not just in his own country, but of the entire world. But he wasn’t always like that, when he began his career from the very bottom of the ladder. In his cutting and caustic satire, Adam McKay carefully studies just how persistently and nearly unbeknownst to those around him this quiet Washington bureaucrat climbed the ladder of power, who had his back, whose interests he represented, what brought him to such a career, and how America is dealing with the consequences of his decisions today. The film was nominated for eight Oscars, and Christian Bale already earned a Golden Globe for his starring role, which demanded a complete transformation from him.
