19:00 "Opera Ball" Gala
Dinara Alieva (soprano) and “Orpheus” Symphony Orchestra, Conductor Sergey Kondrashev will perform Overtures, orchestra pieces and arias from the operas by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, P. Tchaikovsky, G. Verdi, G. Puccini, L. Delibes and F. Lehar. Described as “a singer who possesses the gift of heaven” by soprano Montserrat Caballé, Azerbaijani soprano Dinara Alieva – winner of the 2007 international Maria Callas competition – joined the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow as soloist in 2010, where she has sung lead and supporting roles in many seminal works of the operatic literature. She has since appeared at major opera houses and concert halls throughout the world – including the Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, German Opera Berlin, and Bavarian State Opera, among others. She has performed under the batons of conductors such as Yuri Temirkanov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Vladimir Spivakov, Yuri Bashmet, Constantine Orbelian, Donald Runnicles, Giuseppe Sabbatini, and Marcello Rota.

19:30 Moscow International Choir. Christmas Concert
Moscow International Choir will perform choral pieces from Handel’s “Messiah,” accompanied by an orchestra made up of some of Moscow’s finest musicians. The second half of the program is a mix of traditional and contemporary carols guaranteed to get you into a holiday spirit. The choir was founded over 15 years ago to give amateur singers in Moscow an opportunity to sing together — and get to know each other. The very international group includes Russians, Americans, Dutch, Danish, German, French and British expats, although it is constantly changing as people leave Moscow for other diplomatic or job postings and new singers arrive. In keeping with the mission statement of the choir and the spirit of George Frederic Handel, who held annual charity performances of the Messiah to support London’s Foundling Hospital, all profits from the concerts are donated to Russian charitable organizations. Tickets are best reserved in advance through moscow.international.choir@gmail.com
