Moscow Nightclub Guide[1]

[edit] Description

1st floor - restaurant & pub, own brewery.
2nd floor - club, daily live Dj-sets, regular live concerts.

The first floor of the club opened its doors for the first visitors in 1996; designed as a traditional English pub with its usual relaxed atmosphere and own brewery (the recipe of the special club beer in now patented) quickly became widely known and beloved among Muscovites. The second floor (night club with stage and dancing hall) opened in 1997 and added to the popularity of “Sixteen Tons” among Moscow clubs.

The interior of the “Sixteen Tons” was designed in cooperation with "Andy Thornton Architectural Antiques" company, an avowed leader in authentic English design. The style of the second floor, created especially for the club, is a vivid combination of the decorative ideas of “Monty Python” group and fantastic B-movies of early 50s. The name of the club was taken from the song about the hard work of the miners by American composer Merle Travis (originally written in 1946, it became popular only in 1955, sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford). One of the symbols of the club is the sixteen-ton weight, regularly used as ballast for the bridges of boats.

The stage of “Sixteen Tons” gives shelter for almost every kind of musical styles, form traditional rock to vanguard classics and neo-jazz. The discos with club dancing music are held every weekend (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) in the dancing hall. On the other days DJs introduce something more experimental, accompanied with movies or cartoons. At last, excellent European cuisine leaves nothing more to be desired for your perfect evening in the “Sixteen Tons”.
