Moscow Museum Guide
[edit] Description
Founded in 1872, the museum has now reached rather magnificent dimensions and impresses with its diversity and quantities of different exhibits. It occupies all four stories of the large building on Novaya ploschad. The exposition of the whole ground floor is devoted to various motor vehicles, from rather old and ridiculous to contemporary ones. Chemistry and metallurgy, electronics and telecommunication, meteorology and aviation – this is not a half full list of the themes the halls of the second floor are devoted to. Again up the stairs – and you are in the world of space research and automation. And the entire fourth floor is occupied with the exhibition of the computer engineering.
A very special exhibition “The Time Machines” on the third floor presents an outstanding collection of striking clocks, cuckoo-clocks, analog and digital watches, chronometers and other machines ever invented to count the time, from ancient to modern ones. Among thousands of interesting things presented in the museum you can find, for example, copies and real parts of the Russian spaceships, a big globe with individual clock for every time zone and even the first electronic musical instrument “Termenvox”, developed in early twenties by Russian inventor L. S. Termen.
A special hobby-center on the first floor offers automobile, air- and spacecraft models and all accessories for their assembly. Diverse souvenirs are also available here.
